Middle School Boys’ Boarding

Boarding at TAS transforms a place of residence into all the best aspects of home, while giving boarders an academic advantage as well as an active and rich social and recreational life.

Middle School boy boarders reside in White House, under the care of the Head of Middle School Boarding and a Housemother, who are assisted by teaching and duty staff. Around 70 boys are accommodated in dormitories of between four and eight boys, with communal lounge areas and a wireless internet network.

For Middle School boarders, evening study time (‘Prep’) is conducted in classrooms under the supervision of academic staff.

From rising time until lights out, the life of a boarder is an active and fulfilling one, with age-appropriate routines designed to help them flourish academically, physically, socially and spiritually.

A healthy range of meals served in the school’s main dining room, evening supper in House, and the constant availability of fresh fruit, provide a nourishing and balanced diet.

Outside of school hours, all boarders have access to the school’s excellent facilities, including the heated indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, gym and weights room. Boys can take town leave during the week when they do not have other commitments. During weekends, organised activities for Middle School boarders in particular, can range from a trip to the coast, roller skating, 10 pin bowling, or the cinema.

While there is no set number of weekend exeats per term, all boarders are expected to honour their school and sporting commitments, and some weekends are closed due to specific activities. Leave can be organised with the Head of House.

A well-appointed Medical Centre is staffed by qualified nursing sisters who dispense care and comfort to boarders and are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The school doctor also visits three mornings a week.
